Valencian Views & Perfect Paella
This was just the most wonderful tour and we loved every minute of it. Javier, our guide, was so knowledgeable and interesting and we enjoyed learning about the fascinating history of this magnificent city as we walked around it. We saw all the main sights in the old city and Javier also took us to some unusual places. He also gave us ideas for our subsequent 2 days in Valencia - some places to revisit and new places to see. The communication was fantastic before we even met him - he even emailed to warn me the clocks were going forward in Spain the night before our tour. He went out of his way to come and meet us near our apartment for the start of the tour and as the tour progressed we found him to be utterly charming and he helped us to fall in love with this beautiful city. We stopped for a delicious tapas mid way through the morning in a gorgeous little square which we wouldn't have found on our own. The paella lunch at the end was absolutely superb. We had a huge choice of dishes (we could have eaten them all!) and the one we chose was just so good, a true Valencian dish and the reason that the city is the home of paella. I cannot recommend Javier and "Foodie & Tours Valencia" more highly. If you are only going to Valencia for a short visit this is the perfect tour to do, but also if you are going for longer then I would suggest doing this to start with as Javier will give you so much information. We were sorry that we didn't have time to do any of his other tours - but we will return and do them next time. This tour exceeded all our expectations and deserves 5 *'s. Muchas gracias.

My husband I didn't have the most auspicious start on our trip to Valencia. My handbag, containing all of our documents was stolen from our car after we were pulled over on the motorway from Barcelona to Valencia. We spent our first 24 hours in Valencia dealing with police reports and making arrangements to get replacement passports.

I must say, we weren't in a state of mind to enjoy Valencia and then we met Javier. It is not an exaggeration to say that he completely turned our trip around. The engaging tour and fabulous food allowed us to forget our stress and troubles for the first time after being robbed. We tried amazing, unique foods that we would not have found without his guidance. We learnt a lot about the history of Valencia as a unique and interesting city. What started as a stop on our way to Granada became the highlight of our trip.
Javier helped us to track down a local wine that had been recommended at a much cheaper price than we had been able to find on our own. After noticing our personal tastes and interests, Javier ensured that we found wines to suit and diverted our tour to show us interesting pieces of street art.
On hearing that we would need to drive to Madrid and back to arrange new passports, Javier took us at the end of tour to arrange high speed rail transfers and followed up with us the next day.
He gave us numerous recommendations for the next stops on our trip and I feel, personally saved us from having a truly terrible holiday. All this on top of being incredibly well informed about the local history, as well as being passionate about local cuisine and produce.
Having done a lot of food tours across the world during our lifetimes, I don't doubt for a second that Javier's tour is the best one we have ever done.

Our very first food tour that we've done anywhere, and Javier set an impossibly high bar for those to come. Valencia is an incredible city, which far exceeded expectations, and he's a fantastic guide. We will absolutely be back. We learned about the history, the geography, the people, the places, and the food in this wonderful city. He even helped us make reservations for after the tour at a restaurant full of locals for paella, and has been so kind as to send us book recommendations based on discussions that we had on the tour. Truly, he's gone above and beyond.

And Javier, I think that the tomatoes, onions, and peppers and vermouth at La Bernarda might have been my favorite meal in all of Spain on this trip. 🙂 Keep doing what you do. We'll see you next time!
